I just use a laptop and change the font size to a larger size. I used to use ctrl+ a lot to magnify screens but for some reason I don't have to do that anymore. This is a 15.5" Lenovo with Win7 and there are a million adjustments to play around with to change the font size for different sites so I did a lot of that when I first bought it.
What I would love is a matte screen so I could use it outside or on the porch and not get the reflection. I keep reading about how hard they are to find. No, I don't own a smart phone. I don't think I could even read it. No little tablets either.
I read about this one time--a computer screen that would fold up! Then we would have the best of both worlds. The little device that we could carry around plus the big screen to enable us to read it!
Reluctantly,
I have a Mac Book Air.
I can enlarge the screen a lot if I need to ,especially if my eyes are tired at the end of the day,or if there is a picture that is not very big.
As an example I can enlarge this tying area greater than my screen can handle ,to roughly 2/3 of it.
I don't appreciate the mac program because the apps are a bait and switch , they offer apps free, or cheaply initially, then charge a bundle to actually make use of the app.
They will give you a space fighting game, but you have to buy the bullets. essentially..
Fraud if you ask me.
The only real advantage to the MAC ,is being online and virus issues are nil .So far.
I have an iMac with a large screen. That's what I use most of the time. I also have a Dell laptop but I much prefer the Mac. I also have an iPhone and when our Internet is down, I use that but I am too old to do much with it - partially due to my vision and partially because I'm too darn old!
Goodness ! Alot of different solutions and many technical things I don't understand and probably won't. I never used control + before and it has helped me alot so thanks. Also got out the restasis and the eye vitamins which I gave up on a few months ago. I don't find restasis very helpful, and think I will try something else. Gave away my 38" flatscreen tv, never thinking I could have used it as a monitor (duh). Keep the ideas coming !!!!
There was another thread I started earlier this year about monitors and vision in aging eyes. Someone there said Dell had good monitors. So I got a 24" ultra sharp one and I can see things a whole lot better than with my old monitor.
Desktop with decent sized screen. Take frequent breaks looking out at a distance for at least 10 minutes of every hour. Also, staying hydrated helps with the eye strain thing.
I use a 27" iMac, my wife uses the 21" iMac. I have a Windows laptop that I need for work, but I SOOOOOOO much prefer Mac over Windows that I'd never consider anything but a Mac for personal use. I'm also a photographer, so that's the main reason I chose the larger iMac. I think either one would work for you. I should confess that I've been an Apple user since the very beginning -- 35 years now. I'm a little prejudiced, but I think for good reason. I've also used DOS and Windows. The iMac is an elegant little desktop computer.

One of my many favorite things about retirement was saying bye-bye forever to Windows.
