Just remember, in some part of the world it's after 5pm. So why wait?

True. Time is relative - and 4:38 is relatively late in the day!

We get up at 7AM every day and go walking. Summer weather in Orlando is hot and humid even at that time of day. Our highlight is when we have got back home and hit the shower knowing that we did what we had to and that is now out of the way.

Because people are not running around to the London Philharmonic (or wherever you said), reading to schoolkids, driving around in a sports car -- they are "vegetating"? Morning coffee on the porch, reading a book on the rocking chair, enjoying the sunrise -- these activities are not "meaningful" to you? Obviously you think not, hence the people who cherish these simple activities after 30 or 40 years of working at perhaps a stressful, physically demanding or just tedious job, are vegetating. Half the responses on here were tongue-in-cheek to begin with....

And about the person whose highlight is not having to go to work? That's my highlight, too. I had a 25+-year career at a wonderful company, until it was acquired by a huge corporation. And then everything changed. When you work at a job you hate, it's no fun getting up in the morning. So every day of freedom from that misery is glorious to me, whether I'm doing something "meaningful" like you or just sitting here on the computer "vegetating"....or I guess maybe that IS meaningful since you also do that...?

It doesn't need to be a debate and you don't need to denigrate other people's lives because they may not be the Energizer Bunny like you...OK, I will now go back to "vegetating"....
I do think most people need some sort of passion or dream or goal to keep them going, to keep them vital. Glad to see you have your hostility to drive you.

My husband used to say "You think and I get into trouble"
I'll avoid getting into too much trouble by just saying "Don't think your think is necessarily truth"

I sometimes get the idea that those who choose to stay active in the community are hinting that those who choose to do more individual and personal activities are ...in the vernacular..."a waste of fresh air"...that one has to stay an obvious contributing member of society or they have something wrong with them.

There are many ways to determine someone's worth and usefulness and not everybody feels it necessary to enumerate those ways on a message board.

some of us have known passion, achieved our dreams, and reached our goals. I have plenty to think about while I set (southern for vegetate )

I am happy to be no longer driven.
