How long have you been retired? After two or three months I have a hard time imagining that waking up and feeling glad one does not have to go to work could be considered a "highlight" of one's day.

I'm most likely 30 years away from retirement and this thread makes me insanely jealous!

I lived my life pretty cheap starting at an early age. Took advantage of my employers matching 401k plan and pension plan. Early retirement was my primary focus the last 10 years that I worked. In my mid 20's I bought a house and had my co- worker room mates pay me rent. You dont have to be super smart, just have to work the system to your advantage. No need to cheat, lie or steal to get it done.

While I'm having my morning coffee after getting up when I want to, deciding what I want to do today.

Done is good. I retired on December 30, 2008, sooner than originally planned due to disillusionment, so not having to go to work, on the periodic occasion I think of it, is still a joy I hope never to lose. Simple pleasures!

Just you wait. In 30 years you'll be enjoying your retirement, but we'll be pushing up daisies!

My husband and i always say on Sunday night " thank God we don't have to get up for work tomorrow" we have been retired since 2000 so we have enjoyed quite a few years of life without work. I do hope that many others have that to look forward to.

What's yours?
Lately, I've been plotting death and destruction to the swarm of houseflies that has somehow gained entrance to a fairly tight apartment.

I guess it gives some meaning to my life, even if in an annoying way.

I love sleeping late and getting up when I feel like it rather than the grueling 6:15 am or 6:30 am which working required.

Also love going to bed when I feel like it and that is often 3:00 am or 4:00 am.

And after 4.5 years of retirement, I like others still relish and am happy daily to not be going to work.

In summer, a high point of each day is sitting on my balcony surrounded by colorful morning glory vines, reading a book, feeling the breeze and sun, and drinking iced tea.

I love the freedom.
