I encountered a recent example of the efficiency of the Social Security Administration. I need over a dozen 1099's and W-2's before I can file my taxes; this year the first one I received was from SS.

Another example is the nine years I've been receiving the electronic deposits of my SS retirement benefit; never late, never missing.

A third example: Each year I have a small amount of earnings which cause a slight increase in my benefit, being that I have lots of zeros in the 35 year averaging. Each year, without any action on my part, SS picks up on the earnings (from the IRS I suppose), recalculates my benefit, and incorporates the slight increase in the payment.

I know other folks have had other experiences, but I was favorably impressed at receiving the first 1099 from SS, which gave me the idea to start this thread.

My experience has been the same.
When BH made too much money and we had to pay benefits back, they never made a
mistake.

Our first 1099s were from CalPERS and SS's 1099s came the following day. We've never had a hitch where they are concerned. But keep it quiet. I wouldn't want incompetence to become one of the fundamental changes to America!

Social Security seems to function well, considering the scope and breadth of their charter.

Now, if we can only stop the politicians from 'raiding the SS piggy bank' to fund off-budget spending. Their IOU's do little but, build more debt and further undercut the financial stability of the nation.

I start collecting my Widow's Benefits in exactly 13 days. Not that I'm counting or anything. So I won't bite the hand that feeds me! I love them and I'm incredibly happy to have lived long enough to get something back!

It did take 10 months to get my disability & that was with a lawyer. But, it's understandable because I have one of the invisible disability, a bad back caused by a car accident & they hear this all the time.

Since then, the check has been in my bank like clockwork.

I was impressed with the online filing, immediate contact, phone access to local person, and letter within 10 days on benefit to be received.

It was regular benefit not disability.

Excellent service from SS here too, both when on SSD and now on regular SS. Good phone response and never a delayed deposit.
