Like many retirees, one couple from upstate New York visit doctors in their winter getaway in Florida. But on a recent routine checkup of a pacemaker, a cardiologist there insisted on scheduling several expensive tests even though the 91-year-old husband had no symptoms.

“You walk in the door, and they just start doing things,” said Sally Spencer, 70, who canceled the tests after her husband’s longtime doctor advised her by phone that none of them were needed.

The article doesn't surprise me. I've always thought that the medical care in Florida was terrible and too focused on income. That is one reason I left it (even though otherwise, I love the state). While reading the article it crossed my mind to wonder if the doctors even look at the test reports because they seem to have a hard time interpreting the results.

Normally the test are not read by doctor ;its read by tech who specializes in that. Just like X-ray are gone over by same because they are better at it than most doctors. Then a report is sent to doctor who ordered the test on finding of test.its also why general physicians seen you to specialist.
