My wife worked two jobs in 2014. One has reported on her earnings record the other from a very large international fast food chain still hasn't reported. When I called SS they told me she had to come in with the W-2 to prove the earnings.
When I look on the website it seems they will not do anything for current year so far as this is concerned. Does she have to wait until next year to have her earnings record updated?

Well, for 2014 earnings- the year before the current year (called lag earnings, as opposed to pre-lag) you need to wait at least 6 months after the close of the year in question. So, around July, check again. If still not on her record, then submit the W2 to SSA to have them post the earnings.
"Because of the more than 250 million wage reports we must record, your earnings for last year may not show up on your record until late in the current year."
Calculating some different scenarios and went to check my on-line SS statement to get some figures. I noticed that my 2014 earnings were included. Don't know exactly when they were uploaded, but it was in the past few weeks.
I'm 63 and have only 39 credits, because I worked for state government for 30 years, and didn't pay SS taxes during that time.
I'm working now and will probably earn my 40th credit in March. Can I take my pay stub to SS and get them to post it to my account immediately, so I can begin collecting my benefit?
Sorry, Booch, I don't know the answer to that, but do think it would be worth a phone call to your local SSA office.
I know this is an old thread, but in case the issue comes up again I wanted to let people know this.
I do the payroll for my company. A few years ago I sent my w-3 and SSA copies of the w-2s to Wilkes-Barre before the end of February as required, and return receipt requested as always. Along about April it dawned on me that I hadn't yet received the return receipt. I'm loath to run afoul of the government in such matters, so I freaked out that they had never received it. So, I called. The woman I spoke to said that they receive soooooo many of those that sometimes they don't even get dealt with until June or July, and I shouldn't worry unless I didn't have the return receipt by the end of July. Sure enough, the receipt showed up eventually.
All of which is to say, try not to worry too much if your prior year's earnings don't show up in your statement until after the second quarter of the current year.
