since 2000 we are adding one year of life every 4 years. throw in the fact that average life expectancy goes up as we age. if you make it to 65 a man has a 50/50 chance of living past 83 and a woman 85 and a couple as much as 87 now. those are some pretty good odds of seeing old age compared to life expectancy from birth.

I got my current fab job when I was 52. Depends on the person and skills whether you will be hired. I'm nearing 68 as we speak and still on the job.

And you are one of the lucky few. And really, the serious discrimination for most starts when they hit 55 or so. In my case, it started when I was nearing 40 - in the high tech world, older programmers "don't got legs".

What about the rest of us?

Saying "nobody" IS a little hyperbolic. But the truth is as has been stated for a majority of older workers.
