I like the old type of paper much better as I read it cover to cover and found all sorts of interesting thing I never would have found on my own.
I no longer get a paper but for instance I find online I just look up specific news info, like how my team is doing, what is weather, stock market news.
When I got a paper I read Obituaries (read some amazing ones about folks who served in WW1 and WW2 , classified, updates on other sports things, racing info, home improvement info, reviews of plays, even found cool foreclosure notices and govt info posted. In particular nothing better than getting bagels and reading entire sunday times in your bathrobe.
I feel a little stupider now. Snips of info is not knowledge
I get four newspapers delivered to my office daily during the week (WSJ, NYT, Washington Post, and LA Times), and on Sundays I get home delivery of the NYT and the New York Daily News.
I find that reading PAPER newspapers forces me to at least glance over stories I might not have otherwise caught as part of an Internet search.
It also gives my eyes a much-needed break away from staring into illuminated screens, which has become nearly 100% of my job anymore.
We recently moved to Denver and we get the Denver Post delivered. I spend way too much time on my laptop and phone anyway, and I find reading the paper copy to be relaxing. Plus, there are the crosswords and Sudoku puzzles to do. I do read Washington Post online.
I kept up our newspaper delivery far longer than I should have. The delivery was unreliable, and it covered news from the closest big city but little to nothing happening in our town. We get a town paper delivered weekly, free of charge. I subscribe to The Week, and get everything else online.
We always had a daily paper delivered until it started coming after I left for work in my last year. I liked to read it with my coffee before leaving for work. The papers were piling up and not being read when I got home from work so I cancelled my subscription of 28 years.
Same here. Also the regional paper was basically giving us yesterday's news today. That was the reason I gave.
We still get the local paper, it has relevance. Esp with local events.
Glad to see I am not alone in my preference for a printed newspaper. The delivery of the L.A. Times is extremely reliable, by the way. And thanks, LauraC, I'll have to try the Fandango website.
My mom has to have a daily paper so we get the local Wilmington Star. I could live without it, since I read a lot of online sites. I do enjoy the Sunday NY Times we have delivered. I enjoy the book section and magazine and the special sections.
I get in on the weekends, mostly for the coupons and grocery ads. If I just wanted news, I would probably read it online. I enjoy reading the Sunday paper out on the balcony with my coffee though. Wouldn't be the same reading it on a tablet.
