The CT scan my husband had showed protein particles on his brain. Now he has an appointment with a Dementia specialist but it is June, the soonest we could get him in. Now , thinking back about things and learning about Dementia it is hard to tell how long he has had this. He is on a lot of meds too. We are getting closer to our vacation and we are not getting along very well. He may be freaking out, now that I read stuff. I'm scared. I tried to talk to him about this but he just got really mad. I am wondering now if we should go on vacation to FL. He says he wants to go. But people with Dementia can change personalities from one hour to the next. Please help and suggest. Thank you
Tarajane, without looking back, I believe you mentioned kidney failure as one of your husband's medical problems. If so, is this under control?
Are you driving, and if so, how long is the trip? Does your husband tolerate short trips well? Are you physically and emotionally prepared to find an emergency room on the way if you need one? What does your husband's GP say about your trip? Have you talked to him/her?
I am hoping very much that this works out for you.
Yes, Stage III no diaylsis (spelling) yet. They are stable. Labs good. 18 Hours total. We have vacationed in FL now for lots of years. I try to always be aware of the blue hospital signs on the road. Yes, GP knows we are going to FL, he didn't say anything about not going. I am just taking it day by day now. It seems to me that he has gotten a little worse. He got up from his nap and acted as if nothing happened. He said it felt really good to sleep. Ate some lunch and is now on the patio reading. According to what I have read some days good, some days not so good. I do know that sadly this will be our last vacation at least all the way to FL. Thank you for your help and concern.
I'm not sure I am much help, but you sound like you have things under control. My husband had a chronic illness. I understand the moments (days) of panic when you think things are going downhill, and then they even out again.
I have an appointment tomorrow with his doc. He seems to be changing each day. I think I am going insane.......He hid a pill from me and acted like he took it. He threw half of his breakfast in the trash and I just happened to see it and he said it was too salty........he was eating a muffin last night watching tv and I looked over and his mouth was open, eyes shut and was about to drop the dish and muffin.......This in just a matter of minutes. I am so scared. Thanks for listening..
I don't know anything about anything right now. I am trying to plan things out just in case. I am from KY. Can I get Power of Attorney without him knowing anything about it ? Also Ky people out here should I start to apply for Medicaid ? We don't have much money at all. We had to scrape and scrape to get the money to go to FL if that is even in the cards now. CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE??? should I BE IN THE ky FORUM ????
Hi TaraJane2013.....I have been following your thread and am sorry about your troubles. I looked up Medicaid in Kentucky and found a link for you -- http://chfs.ky.gov/dms/eligibility.htm .I agree with the others -- check first with your family doctor. If you do not have a family doctor, most counties in the U.S. do have medical clinics which have sliding scale fees and the addresses are in the phone book or internet under the county name and usually "Health Dept"....Please keep us posted, TaraJane. This is a pretty caring group here!
