I've downsized a lot but right now I only have to take another bag of clothing to the Goodwill and I CANNOT GET ANYONE TO take the extra cedar chest. Maybe I'll just hang onto it for extra storage and have some charity pick it up if we ever move.

I have required my wife, a relative of Imelda Marcos perhaps, that whenever she buys a new pair old shoes sh has to throw away an old pair. with 75 pairs, this has pretty much cut out the new shoes buying , since she's horribly attached to the old ones.

I have about 6 pairs of shoes, most of which I don't wear, and haven't bought a new pair in two years.

Gave away 90 music CDs.
Had ripped them all to FLAC.

Today is trash day, so I bit the bullet and tossed a bunch of photo albums. There's a lot more, but that's a good start. So that is ~100# less to move.

I threw a lot of old photo albums out and gave away a lot of old family photo's to the little remaining family we have left. I just didn't want to move them. I also got rid of every cookbook I owned, I had an entire bookshelf of them and all our other books. We donated those to the VA Hospital.

You should list it on Freecycle, someone will come get it. That's how I got rid of a lot of things.

That's a good idea. I had it on Facebook yardsale. But on freecycle, things are FREE. Someone would come and take it. Thank you.

I used to put the worst things on my front lawn with a sign FREE. They would be gone in a couple of days.

Same here, but we don't bother with the "free" sign. We just put the item(s) at the sidewalk and they magically disappear within hours. ...and we live on a cul de sac in a fairly nice neighborhood.

I thought of this thread talking to my mother yesterday. She's 87 and still living in the house they had built 58 years ago. She's gotten rid of a lot over the years, but there's still more stuff.

Back in the 70s and 80s, music boxes were popular, and my late brother used to buy her one for Mother's Day or Christmas. Now she has all these lovely music boxes but they're just sitting in a box and although she says she's having trouble "hearing certain tones", she's lost much of her hearing and can't even enjoy them.

Some of her friends--well, pretty much ALL of her friends--live in this assisted living/nursing home facility nearby, and they have all kinds of activities, including Bingo. She said the volunteers are always asking for donations for prizes for Bingo, and so Mom is going to give them the music boxes! Maybe some of you have things you could give to a similar facility.
