A 65 yr old woman in Germany just gave birth to quadruplets, prematurely, after implantation of a donor embryo. This is so wrong on so many levels, of course.
More than likely they will have streams of medical problems throughout their lives, especially in childhood through their early adult years, if not following.

My question is, if you could have a baby, and you knew you would live at least another 20 years, would you want to?
NO!!!!!!!! !!! I figure there are good reasons that Mother Nature shuts down the factory when she does.

Ghods, no.
I didn't want one when I was 20, so I didn't.
And still don't want one.
I am definitely not maternal.
I had my first child at age 31 and my second child at 36. The second child was much harder than the first. I've known a few women that had a child in their 40's and was always thankful that I wasn't one of them. Age 45+ no way!
With my second child, I had to undergo all sorts of genetic testing and counseling.
but not for old men to father children in their 60's and 70's?
bit of a double standard if it's OK for the chaps but not the ladies
It is selfish and inconsiderate for men also. And think of the health implications. No..... a child needs their parents for at least 20 years - active parents. Not some old farts. I feel very sorry for the children.
When older men father children, as a rule, the mother is much younger. She has to be. As much as I think two active parents are best, if the father becomes inactive or dies, the child still has a living parent. In the case of this older woman and her now-17 children, she is all they've got.
I do think having this many children at any age is selfish- selfish on the planet, selfish to the kids who will have to care for younger kids, selfish to the kids who will get so little from the one parent divided up. I also think it's horrendously selfish to have multiples who will be compromised in their health with an aging single parent. That is just sick.
I couldn't find the link to it again but I read that this woman had young donors so if the babies make it through the preemie stage they have a good chance of survival. They could have the usual problems of any baby born premature but won't have the problems of an older woman who conceived and carried then naturally.
Just because you can do a thing ,does not mean you should.
