Robo-calls are automated. I have tried answering them a couple of times only to discover it is not a real person. I have called them back...... good luck with that.
I did go to Google, and they offered several sites to click on to report. I was getting them one after another after another...... after calling the site from Google, I filled in a report and put some comments. Have not had any calls from that particular one since.
I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. If it's legit they will leave a message.
What many of the robo calls do though is tag a number as active if someone answers.
They then sell lists of "active numbers" to other scammers.
The do not call list doesn't help with robo calls as they just use software to cycle through numbers.
Stop answering calls from strange numbers is your best bet to reducing the number of calls you get.
Not completely true. One of the robo-callers I was getting left messages. Telling me I was approved for a $15,000 loan, etc. I had never applied for a loan of that nature.
Here's what's going on with us. One of our properties us managed by a very large management company, and I'm getting calls from all sorts of people who work there..so I have to pick up.
I'd love to let it go to voicemail but for some reason, when someone leaves me a voice mail, it might take hours for me to get it. I can't do that to my jobsite.
My husband doesn't answer his phone at all because almost all his calls are scams.
Add to that...the scammers are now calling back over and over and over. He got one number that called six times one morning, and on checking it, there were multiple complaints about the number calling every fifteen minutes and no one connecting through. Husband uses a flip phone with no ability to block numbers.
When I get one on my landline I just say "Please hold..." and then set the phone on the table and walk away, leaving them hanging on for who knows how long. Eventually I hang up the phone when I hear the loud "phone off the hook" sound.
On my cell phone I don't answer if I don't recognize the number. Especially if the number looks a lot like my own number. I have an out of state area code because I moved and kept the same number. Only my family and a few friends, who are all in my contact list, would be calling me from that area code. Just let it go to voicemail and if it's important they'll leave a message.
So 2 years later and thing haven't improved. I don't think the do not call list is worth the time it takes to put in your numbers. I still get multiple calls per day!
Robocallers are now using a method whereby the Caller ID shows the area code and first 3 digits of the phone number the same as yours. They think it's more likely that you'll answer the phone if, say, your phone number is 303-345-6789 and you see a call from 303-345-xxxx.
Lately almost all my scammer/robocalls have been like that. The Caller ID even show the name of the innocent person who actually owns that phone number.
Or sing the Star Spangled Banner or recite the Gettysburg Address.
