Hang in there fire. It feels so good to be free. I loved what I did, helping communities, but the tension was very high. I used to wake up at 5:00am just to meditate & arm myself for the day. Now there are times I go to bed at 5:00am & get up when I wake up. Ah, feels good.

Watch out that movie usually precedes many people in your organization being laid off, downsized, or just generally re-organized right out of a job.

Revisited old thread. Retired now for 3 years and I'm an expert at this retirement thing. I'm kicking butt out there. Avid hiker, fisherman, boater, have a travel trailer, got certified for diving, and manage two homes.... one in TN and the other in FL. My wife just "retired'' too. We are now "Diamond" cruisers... what ever that means. To me it means we cruise a lot, well the wife anyway. I'm a Collateral diamond.... would that be coal?

Holy crap am I busy. I may have to retire from retirement. No down sizing in the near future for me.

I didn't think my choices were A or Z, but would likely be some of the stops in between. And that is how it has gone.

Over the years preceding retirement I had become increasingly suspicious of "A or B, black or white....." propositions. Fortunately, I believe. I have not joined the pile of bodies on Mount Everest, nor is there a rump-dent in my sofa and a TV in front of it.

My first day of retirement was June 1. Felt fantastic.

On the first regular work day, I got some laundry done, exercised with a friend for as long as I felt like it, and went to babysit my grandson. At 5 months old, he is so cute! Laughs and squawks, but tries to talk. Came home and made dinner. Loved it.

Today I exercised again and met a new woman that I probably will never see again. I don't usually exercise at that gym.
I also went to an estate sale. At the sale, I saw a 1957 mint green Fairlane for dale there. The paint needed work, but I was told it runs "good." The man selling it said that "it just needs a gasket."I am not so sure...I just might buy it if my husband says "yes." I always wanted a vintage car.
After that I let a good friend of mine who retired a year ago buy me lunch. Then, it was time to get to the hairstylist and get caught up with her. Now I am home and thinking of getting into the shower early. Dinner? Who cares?

I am feeling rather carefree right now......

One thing that did not change right away after retirement for me (took about a year), was going to sleep and getting up early. Usta be... In bed by 9:30 PM and get up at 4:30 AM. Those days are gone.

I supposed my working life was oriented to the "clock" . Now it's more oriented to the "time". Time to get up, time to eat, time to go fishing, time to go fishing again, time for a nap, you get the message.
