I'm not that old but I had a thought the other day when I was putting my 6 month old Golden Retriever in her kennel for the night.

If I had a stroke or heart attack or something she'd be trapped in there.

My mother down in Phoenix had a 'check in call' every day. I'm looking for that kinda deal - they call me and if I don't reply .... wait for it.... THEY NOTIFY SOMEBODY who can come over and make sure my dog is ok.

Any suggestions?

I have a disabled niece now living alone. She gets Meals On Wheels, so we have the comfort that someone's checking in with her at least once a day.

Where I live, I think there's a senior patrol that'll do daily checks.

Check with social services where you live to see if they have anything available.

Your mother's program is run by the county Sheriffs office. If she doesn't answer the call, someone will be sent out to do a welfare check on her. Check with your sheriff to see if they have a program.

So you could be lying on the floor, alive but needing help, and that doesn't matter as long as your dog is O.K.?

I have Protection One alarm service and phoned them to ask about a daily email/phone call check in. They don't have the service and said they never considered it. Stupid of them huh? They could make a fortune.

IF all you have in mind is just making sure the person is alive and OK (not in distress) ….not some comprehensive wellness check or conversation…

1) Unless the person has NO family…just ask a family member to call you every day….for example I’d certainly call a relative who asked me….IF it’s just a quick call and the second they answer and say “I’m here”… I can say, “OK, talk to you tomorrow, bye.” The point is to make sure they’re OK, not have a conversation. Sort of like “OK just wanted to make sure you got home ok, bye”

2) There used to be and likely still are…phone wake up call services.

If you have a Great Call cell phone/plan, they have such a service along w/5 Star emergency button and service. I got it after my husband passed away and it is peace of mind for me. Something worth checking out.

I don't have any suggestions because I've never looked into this idea. But it sounds like a really good idea. AND like you I would want my pets looked after whether I had kicked the bucket on the kitchen floor or just passed out, tripped or whatever.

I used to work in EMS and had a similar system. It was called the "Are you ok?"

I think they are great. Check with your local Emergency Services.
