May be nonsense to you but sometimes life comes down to these decisions. Yes, a car is more expensive but does it keep you in touch with the outside world? Yeah, yeah, not counting Chevy Cruse. This poll is questioning peoples priorities to some degree. Please don't call this nonsense just because it does not apply to you. It is a "fun" poll.

One thing I think is apparent in this (at least to me) is that a lot of us are using the computer in what can be a very positive way to keep up with people and socialize. That gets a well deserved bad rap when kids are doing that to the exclusion of any other form of socialization but when we have friends and family met over the decades spread all over the place, it is great for keeping in touch. It also provides entertainment, information and it is okay (IMO) to "meet" strangers in forums that you share thoughts and information with. I sometimes get a little touchy about people giving me a hard time about being online "too much" when my limited face to face social skills were fully developed decades ago.

I agree with kids not developing real social skills, instead have their faces in the screen all the time.

Younger(60s) older adults were blessed by both worlds. We got proper socialization and we learned how to at least get on the web! Sadly, some of us have suffered a downsizing of magnitude proportions so we only have a small window from which we can interact with the world now.

I feel really bad for the OP but it's tempered with with the whinning and nastiness to some who were just trying to help. I do understand that there were a lot of inappropriate responses from either not reading the whole thread or forgetting what the OP stated.

There are a lot of nice people here who just want to try and help others. They sometimes get duped too. I hope this is not the case with this thread.

Are you confusing this thread with the other one about computer use? I am the OP here, and I have nothing to complain about - I do not feel I have been treated badly. One person said it was a "nonsense" thread. Well, that's O.K. - we are all entitled to our opinions and that doesn't bother me.

I have seen nothing, absolutely nothing, in this thread that I would characterize as mean or vicious, and believe me I have been on the receiving end of mean and vicious.

Yeah, I thought I was in the thread where the OP won't leave the house due to incontinence. I do get confused when I'm being "too sociable".

Oh believe me, I have been the victim of many attacks in this place but I usually don't hold a grudge.

The only reason I have a smart phone, vrs a old style call and text and pictures cell, is the old style seem all to be rebuilt phones, and I end up with dead phones after a few months. I got tired of it. But I've never really felt the need to look at the internet on it. Or buy anything.

Now, I have two running Win 7 laptops, a desktop which isn't set up at the moment and an xp and another older laptop. All running at least mostly. Gotta have backups.... I have the main laptop in the middle of the living room and spend most of my time sitting there and not on the couch or the easy chair.

I don't like the android system, and dislike how something drains the charge on my phone so fast... but am seriously thinking of dumping the smart part, going basic, and saving a bit on the bill.

I got the kind of phone I swore I never would. A Droid Turbo with a crazy good battery and largish (for a phone) screen. I have to use a holster. But it is like having a personal tablet with me all the time. I have one nearly full size keyboard that I got for another tablet but works with it and I have another about the same size as the phone that I can type pretty well on. Usually I only have the phone with me and that is fine. But I can grab the little keyboard and a battery that is also about the same size and I have a setup that will work for a few days without power. I can remote in to my office, keep in touch with everyone and do pretty much any computing I need with the phone in the holster and the keyboard and battery in my front pockets. I didn't think I would get used to this but I have.

Default Car??

This is such an obvious easy for me. I never even learned to drive! Never owned a car, and I work from home from my computer. My laptop is my most vital possession.

I worked to save up for my car. Still love it like the day I bought it 8 years ago. The PC can be replaced with my smartphone for the most part. Except for gaming which I'd miss.
