One problem with having a spouse looking younger than their age is that you forget how 'old' he/she really is! I committed a verbal faux pas yesterday while telling my husband about about a former rower who sent a nice email reminiscing his days on the river.
I told my husband that I invited this 70-years old man to ride the launch watching us rowing and maybe even trying coxing. I commented that 'the old man' probably will have a great kick reliving his athletic youth. My husband lamented "What did you call him? old man? In few years, I will be at his age!!".
I think for years, I have always thought old ages mean being in the 70's and up. It seems that boomers like us do look younger than previous generations when they were at the same ages. It could be due to a number of factors: more emphasis on being active, physical fitness, eating right, not smoking, hair dyeing/transplant, plastic surgeries etc.
I certainly don't consider my husband an 'old man', and it is unlikely that he will age much in few years and yet my mind still think someone being 70 years old as 'an old man'.
i guess i shouldn't have used bill cosby's pick up line "does this rag smell like cloroform to you ? " ha ha ha
