I just mived into a new one-bedroom apartment in an urban neighborhood, downsizing from a three-bedroom, two-bath, two-car-garage suburban house. I am ecstatic about this change. My husband and I lived in a condominium years ago, and I always liked condo living.

In 2008 my big change was retirement. Good change. In 2009 we moved 2,000 miles to a different state and bought a house. Also good change. In 2011 severe medical issues hit. Bad change. In 2015 my wife moved back to from whence we came. Good and not so good change. All-in-all a mixed bag.

Generally, the older I get the less I like change. It's one reason I very much dislike shopping at big box stores. "Associates" are constantly changing around the products so what's found in one place last month will be somewhere new this month and shifted again by next month if not by the time I hit the check stand. It drives me nuts!

I'm with you Curmudgeon. I hate it when I walk into a store and I hardly recognize it because everything has been moved!

Too much same old, same old is stultifying, but too much change is not good either. Nothing wrong with having a comfort zone which includes some familiarity. It's nice to know I can trust my dentist and my barber, both of whom I like. (Just by way of example, as trivial as the example may be).

A beautiful advertisement for metal detectors.

Totally agree with you. There is much to be said for liking your dentist and barber. It's important for some things to remain the same. I finally found my primary care (after having several) that I respect and like. Amazing. I was bent to move to NC earlier this year. Thought I wanted it so badly I could taste it. But once reality took over and I realized what a huge mistake that would be for me I started to realize all the advantages of staying right where I am. And if and when the mood strikes, I can visit those places.

Amazing what time and thought can do if you allow it.

Me too and I work there! I hate it when a customer asks me where to find something because, honestly, I never know from one day to the next! Some things never change but then there are things that get moved because of the 'season', or clearances/closeouts or any number of reasons. Always check the big aisles because that's where you're going to find the most stuff moved to!

Wife gave me a Kindle a few weeks ago. I put a thousand books on it, and now use it 3x more than my tablet. If you see me less frequently on here, that's why...and you can rejoice!
