For many folks the richness of cultural diversity has been very beneficial for them and their families. It has enabled their children to acquire the skills to work successfully in a changing global society without fearing the change. It has enabled prosperity. That is their path. Others have chosen paths with hopefully prosperous results for them.
I'm sorry - this sounds exactly like a commercial for a public school in Wilmington NC where the elementary school children said such catch phrases as "I am learning to collaborate so that I can assimilate into a more global community." Kids do not talk like that at the age of eight and nine. They had been schooled in this orwellian insanity. Collaboration today does not mean getting along with others. It means agreeing to the dictated group think so that college kids are threatened by anyone who doesn't tote the same beliefs that they are being spoon-fed in school. As a mom of three sons and one daughter, I can only hope that they have not been captured by the indoctrination of today, worrying more about a global society and less about their country that is going over the cliff of socialism.
I don't care if a community is diverse or not, looking for it seems contrived. Just retire where you like, I'm moving soon, I have no clue about my new neighbors ethnicity and don't care.

Like I said enjoy your life path and hopefully you and yours will prosper also. Some life values are non negotiable. You and yours have yours and me and mine have ours and love the results.

Really? The arrogance of that statement just stupefies me.
If a person only wants to associate with just one ethnicity it is absolutely none of your business. You gonna tell the Amish they can't live the way they do? Are they affecting you in any way? No.
I just see people as people, before someone decided we all had to agree with whatever they had developed as the perfect social construct.
With all the diversity talk, I have seen more fragmentation in society in the past decade than I saw in my first 55 years of life. What a sad commentary on progress.

There are many kinds of diversity. Our community is only about 5% non white, but there is a tremendous amount of diversity, and the non whites are as active as everyone else.

Yes I am embracing my life why wouldn't I? Do you you want me to embrace yours instead? I made it clear that folks should follow their own path and said good luck to them. Yes I embraced prosperity for myself and family. We have been rewarded for embracing prosperity and diversity for ourselves and family. For that we say Bada Bing! I trust your path has left you positive and up lifted also. Non negotiable refers to my values and those I choose to embrace in life and that is my non negotiable choice. So our paths may be different and better for each of us and isn't that what the OP was talking about? Different paths for retirement living!

As my husband & I get close to retirement, I wonder if there has been progress made on ethnic diversity in retirement communities. I Googled the subject, and came up with very little. I'd like an ethnically diverse retirement community. If you know of any, I'd love the information!
I’m nearly 87 and my wife is 13 years younger. Six years ago, with no prior symptoms, I required very serious heart surgery. Recovering quickly, but realizing that our future might not be assured, we sold our house and moved to a nearby high-rise continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Atlanta. Both of us are very happy here and have become very active in various resident committees. I have recently been asked by our leadership to investigate ways of increasing diversity of race and country-of-origin among our over 450-member resident population whose average age is about 85. Several of our neighbors are of Chinese/Japanese origin – there were two African-American couples, but sadly they passed away before we got to know them. As requested, I have been searching the web widely for suggestions about how to equitably encourage this diversification, but have found very little directly addressing this topic. I feel fortunate to have discovered this site. In these pages I’ve ready found a wide range of opinions and am seeking more. I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Good luck in your efforts. For a number of reasons the CCRC population shares similar characteristics.
We have been asked the same question by CCRC’s we have visited and the reasons for are understandable. Unfortunately trying to discuss here wouldn’t go well.
