As we age, we often look back on opportunities we didn't take with regret, or opportunities we took, but blew. That's normal, but do you ever feel like the years have passed and you were just sitting their idle, and nothing got done?
I wouldn't say I was sitting "idle", but there are definitely some things l sure wish I would have done.
Very first thing..... to continue on in college and get at least my AA. Sure would have got me out of working in the warehouse/stockroom area a whole lot faster AND made better money.
I look back on 18-22 and wonder what I did other than chase women. I didn't get serious about my education until I was 21-22 and was 24 when I graduated back in 2010 during the hellish recession. Had I graduated on time in 2008 before TSHTF maybe things would be different.
Serious Conversation, I think you are much too hard on yourself. Everyone needs time to be an adolescent before being an adult; to have fun, to experiment, to learn who we are and what life has to offer. You are doing very well for yourself. Stuff happens in life that we can't control. You are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Your schedule and timing was about mine also back in the 70's. I had 40 years of good working to make careers and save money.
Nothing wrong with what you did. You've got many good years to make something happen.
Don't wait on others, go create your future and career.
I think there are days when I feel like that. Life just passed me by. But I have to admit that during a lot of that time I was aware of it but did nothing about it. So any regret I have is that I let it happen for so long.

No, but I tried to date a little in my dotage and I discovered that men who felt they had missed the sexual revolution were desperate to try it before they died....... mostly with much younger women This is not man bashing. I didn't date any women so I only heard one side of the story.
I don't think your hormone driven years were a waste of time, OP. There is more to life than making a pile of money to secure your retirement. We are meant to smell the roses along the way, even if we miss a few opportunities. Better than missing the roses entirely.

Like most people, I have some regrets about exactly how I did things, but on the whole I do not feel as if life passed me by. I had some grand adventures - no, not as adventuresome as sailing around the world solo or climbing Mount Everest - but grand enough for me. Among them:
Hitch-hiking around Europe
Bicycling from Seattle to Los Angeles
Learning to fly private airplanes and flying to Alaska and the Caribbean
Motorcycling both on and off road
