Tuborg, thanks so much for starting this uplifting thread.
Life was very enjoyable today. An hour of water aerobics which was wonderful...except one minute before class was ended, this heating vent fell from the ceiling! Had it been a minute later 20 of us would have been out on the pool deck where it fell! Don't think anyone would have gotten seriously hurt---it's not that heavy, but still. Shows how e have to have to be grateful for every minute we are alive, healthy, and safe (is there really much more that we need than that?).
Then went to an Asian buffet lunch with a friend. The food wasn't incredible, but it was adequate, plentiful, and varied. Good to visit with my friend---although he isn't completely happy here and is planning to move to the Villages.
Then a nap so we would stay awake from a Metropolitan Opera broadcast of the Magic Flute at our local movie theater. To see something of such beauty and creativity two miles away from home and not having to go to NYC and only paying $18 a ticket for it was truly a Christmas gift.
It even made me happy to talk with my friend at lunch and people at the gym about last night's debate---hearing their take on it, making some comments since I read about it this morning, but so happy I didn't spend two hours watching it yesterday since it frustrates more than informs me.
Yesterday at one of the elementary schools where I volunteer a fifth grade boy handed me a card with a $25 gift certificate to a local bookstore inside. His mother had written: "Thank you for helping out with 5th grade and chess club. (Name of student) constantly talks about how wonderful you are. Best wishes, (Name of mother)"
That's the kind of reward money cannot buy - unsolicited and therefore obviously sincere.

Very nice to be acknowledged - what are you going to buy me?
That is so nice to hear! great that you and the reading to the students & chess skills are acknowledged with a lovely generous gift.....certainly is thoughtful of the giver, and I'm glad your efforts are being noticed and appreciated!
The students are obviously benefitting!
