I have a somewhat minor question, which, however, may spark a wider discussion about obsolete but still useful items (or what has replaced the obsolete items). The item about which I have a question are matches (to, eg, light a candle).
In the days of old, when people used to smoke in larger numbers, restaurants and similar places would give you free little souvenir matchboxes with their advertising logos, which I used to collect (even though I never smoked). You could also buy packets of matches in the store, of course.
I still have my 35+ year old collection of restaurant (and even airline!!!?) souvenir matches, but they are dwindling down, so I have to face this question: what do people nowadays use to light candles and incenses? It seems I haven't seen any matches anywhere in more than last quarter of a century.
My grocery sells boxes of matches (in multipacks, as Clemecia 53 mentioned). Most hardware stores sell them as well (look in the aisle where they keep grills and grilling supplies).
I use these. You can find a box of matches at Walmart.
Thank you all for the suggestions. There is no Walmart anywhere near where I live (in all 3 cities), There are some Targets, I'll look. These BIC things, do they work reliably, and how many times can you reuse them? Do they stop functioning if you don't use them for a while, say, months (I don't light candles very often, though in New York City where I have one condo the electricity is so insanely expensive that I might switch to reading by the candlelight before falling asleep :-).

I haven't counted, but at least a couple months. I don't burn candles often. You can get a 4-pack of them for like $5 here.

I found one of my bic lighters used for lighting candles, in a box I hadn't opened in >10 years. Pulled it out, worked just fine. Put it in rotation with the other 2 I have.
You can order almost anything you need online. I realize people don't necessarily want to do that, but it's a good option to have available.
