A 77-year-old man who shot three people, killing one, at the senior apartment complex where he lived had grown distant recently and had been angry about frequent poker games in the building's common area, according to people who knew him.
Were they playing strip poker? It might aggravate me if they were morbidly obese and had lots of cellulite blurbles hanging down while I'm trying to eat lunch or watch the news...jus sayin.
"He started getting more and more distant, complaining about the facility and about people and just kind of pulling away, isolating himself more and more," Rosso said.
The title given this story by the News is misleading. THIS was the real reason he shot those people. The poker games were more than likely just the catalyst. It sounds like he was slipping into some sort of mental illness. This isn't an excuse, though, he will probably still be expected to pay for his crime even if he is declared mentally incompetent.
Well, clearly, he was a disturbed individual. And disturbed individuals tend to get more disturbed when others behave badly, as in bringing in people from outside a community to gamble on property paid for by the residents whose home it is, and the manager does nothing about it:
"But Eastman said Rosenberg wasn't the only person with concerns about poker games held three days a week in the common area. The issue came up at a recent meeting at which residents told the apartment complex managers about any concerns they had, she said. "Sunday, Monday and then Wednesday," Eastman said. "That's too much. To haul them people in we don't even know. We don't want to know them. No, we don't. They're taking up our space. Sleeping on the sofa. Sleeping on the recliner."
Of course, nothing excuses murder, but I'd be pissed too, if a mess of people showed up in my common room 3x a week to gamble and pass out on our furniture.

Same kind of thing happened here. Monday through Friday the same women "took over" the community room and while in the beginning they would invite others to join them, many declined as they did not want to listen to the gossip, be talked about behind their back, play the same games over and over. And when our sport team played and was televised, they were in there for that with screaming so loud some of us could hear it in our own apartments.
There were a few people who complained to management and the activity in that room dropped considerably.
