I guess there must be something wrong with me. Of course I am still working, but I never watch any of that boring politics/news/investment/PBS/History/sports/reality stuff on TV. I want decompression not blood pressure. I don't leave it on for noise. We usually DVR our favorite shows, purely for entertainment, then watch them so that we can skip all the commercials. We have at least 12-14 shows that are entertaining and/or exciting. If it gets stale, we don't watch it anymore. I also read when the mood strikes. I just read Dan Browns Inferno the other night, which was fun because we had just visted all the same places in Florence and Venice in March, and the movie comes out later this month.

Election yr is a great yr to be gone from the USA
To think of the wasted revenue on ads (not 'information'). Probably now exceeds our USA manufacturing output! For what? No (few) jobs, no sustained capital investments, just fluff that will soon be of no use.
My TV is on right now but I'm in another room on my desktop. Unless something big breaks during the day that I hear about/read about where I'd like to see the news footage, the TV doesn't go on until 4PM. I eat dinner in front of the TV.
I watch a lot of things On Demand on weekend nights. There are some TV shows (and movies) I have never seen when they normally air.
As I think about it, I don't watch a whole heck of a lot of TV. An hour or so at night, maybe 20 minutes to start the day with the Business Channel. Maybe some football or baseball on the weekend. But other than that -- not more than 3 hours a day.
When I turn on the box, I first check to see what's on PBS that night -- NOVA or perhaps some Performing Arts. If nothing of interest is on, I'll go to Turner Classic Movie channel, or check the HBO channel lineup for any movies that might be interesting. The Showtime Channel has mostly Zombie sagas anymore, but sometimes has a good movie will be on. So, essentially it's PBS, TCM, HBO ans SHO.
It is with a great deal of pride that I say I have never watched a minute of the Kardashians, the Jenners, nor the Real Housewives of Anywhere. Not the 600 Pound Life nor the Paranormal Baloney shows.
If there's nothing worth watching on my "Core Four" channels.....I'll check out Rachel Maddow and Megyn Kelly. If you really want to know how your government functions, Rachel knows her Political Science. Megyn knows PoliSci too and provides and good counter-balance to the ultra-liberal MSNBC lineup. You'll never get Fair & Balanced by getting all your news from a single channel.
