I did the same! I looked forward to getting that pension. I'm working PT now to kill some debt I have faster but I didn't look for the job, it came to me. If I get sick of it...I can quit!

I really enjoyed the 4 months 'retirement' but I did miss a little of the purpose and camaraderie on a job (not to mention the income)....but I still want to retire again for good (I think). Looking forward to the end of this contract so I can do things on my own time and freedom.
Sounds interesting. I miss some of the camaraderie I had at my old job, and at the part-time work I'm doing now I work two days at home and two days in the office, but the next oldest person, except for the company owner, is 35. The owner is maybe late 40s and barely speaks to me, so often I am in a sort of an isolated bubble even in the office. It's ok. I am there for the income.

I still have plans so I keep working looking for that forever home...

Had I already found it I doubt I would still be working my day job.

No pension and Social Security is still years away... I've do Property Management so giving my day job would not be the same as retiring...

I'm retired with a pension but Social Security is still years away for me, too. I think I have to be 66.8 years old or something, and I am 58.

No, you can take Social Security at age 62 if you wish, but the amount is less per month. It sounds like you are waiting for "full retirement age" and there is nothing wrong with that, but your wording is in error when you say "have to be" a certain age greater than 62.

62 vs 66? Do the math. Calculate the monthly payment amount for each x the number of months if you lived to age 90, for example.
You might be surprized at the 2 total amounts paid out when viewed side by side.

Yes, for full benefits. I don't plan to take it at 62.

by age 90 the return can rival stocks with what amounts to a risk free gov't bond .

you can see a 5% real return ,that is after inflation .

My step grandfather worked until he passed away in his late 80's... it was the business he started in 1948 and employed up to 30 men at one time... less in later years.

He never drew a penny of Social Security... said the opportunity afforded him in America was enough.

When he passed away, my Grandmother started to receive based on his earning well in excess of 3k a month back in the 1990's...

People have said this is impossible but I did the banking for her...

The shop was his life... still the first to open in the morning and the last to turn out the lights and every Saturday morning he would go in to lay out next weeks work... he owned a Tool and Machine shop and came to America with only his trade in the 1920's.

He was quite a guy... with very strong beliefs and very outspoken at the opportunities for those fortunate enough to be called Americans...
