[quote=Clemencia53;46109917]Its so hard to just listen, because it then ruins my day. I come home with a stomach ache and just thinking about what she said. Debbie Downer.
And I am considered the fun person. I dread going over there especially if no one else is going to be there
THis is probably not what you want to ear, but...
IF you can't/won't change your own thinking, how would expect someone else to change theirs? HOw did you deal with working life and people who weren't as fun as you? I personally would work on changing myself first.
I agree with the person who said to ask her what is really going on. BUt that needs, imho to be done with lots of compassion.

That is what I am doing now - getting opinions from people her age. Maybe y'all can help steer me as to what I might expect. Maybe some of y'all have been in my shoes.
People I worked with were just that - people I worked with. Came and went.
I've been feeling like there has been a dark gloomy cloud hanging over this country for the past eight years. Wednesday morning I woke up and kind of digested the news. I walked outside and felt like the sun was finally breaking through. It was so calm, peaceful and relaxing outside and I felt that way inside. God has answered my prayers.
I believe it is too late. Tale of my two sisters: 67 yr old = doom, gloom. 77 yr old = ready for any new challenge. Same personality their entire lives. I much rather be around the 77 yr old. I merely "listen" to the younger one but I invite the older one to join me in activities. Money has nothing to do with attitude.
There is a period we go through where we wait to die. and then if we don't actually die, we jump forward for new activities. She could change.
Most negative, cranky old people - were once negative, cranky young people. If that is the case here, you may get her to adjust her response and behavior around you, but probably not her inner attitude.
This is particularly true in someone who has no real Spiritual life or relationship with God.
Wow. Just wow. So everyone who has a relationship with God is well adjusted, happy and see's unicorns and bunnies everywhere, and those who are non believers are all maladjusted misanthropes with bad attitudes? Really?
Wait, wait I'm still laughing hysterically about this to go on. Thanks for the best laugh I've had all day.
Anyone can change. They need to want to do it though.
