Trump's proposed 13.5% across-the-board cut in federal spending would result in a cut to Social Security that would reduce the average monthly benefit by $182, from $1,360 in 2017 to $1,177.

If you are a retiree who voted for him- did you not know what his policies were?

I don't think so. He said he would never do anything to SS. All scare mongering.

How can one possibly forecast across the board cuts at this point in time? It takes two - congress and the prez.

Pay more attention to Paul Ryan's plans. That's where the damage will come from. Yes, SS is vulnerable, but how? We can't say yet.

Yes, I do.

I also know that the 13.5% cut was proposed by Carmel Martin of the Center for American Progress Action Fund. It has nothing to do with Trump other than the fact Martin wanted to smear him with it.

Cutting taxes has always resulted in more money to the treasury and not less.

For example President Kennedy pushed through some pretty massive tax cuts in 1962

Now let's see what happened in real life.

In 1961 we had wonderful high tax rates that many on the left would be very proud have.

After the tax cuts

Yes, tax rates went down in terms of percentage of GDP but income actually rose because there was more activity.

Every time we have had tax cuts we have enjoyed economic prosperity. It is not a zero sum game.

Mathjak?

Don't forget Medicare and Medicare advantage. Then there's potential new taxes on retirement funds or plans. You know social security at some point will go to wall street.

Why worry? This will still be pretty much the same Congress that could not agree on anything.
