So many retirees have stated that they want to live near the water. This has made me wonder if they are comfortable wearing a swimsuit. Though my apartment complex has a pool and an exercise room, I use the exercise room, but I would never use the pool. After all, I wouldn't want to scare the kids away!
Those of you who live near the water, do you wear a swimsuit to the beach? Are you comfortable doing so?
I didn't vote because none of the answers apply to me.
I don't own a swimsuit. When I go to the beach, I wear shorts and a t-shirt. If I feel like getting in the water, I get in the water in my shorts and t-shirt.
I have always found swimsuits to be really, really uncomfortable, so I just stopped buying them. And there's all that bikini line maintenance I don't want to have to deal with.
55 year old male here and when I go to the beach I wear a leopard thong bikini and black high top telephone lineman boots. I must say I sure turns some heads
Not yet retired but I swim with a bunch who are and yes, they all wear swimsuits. They have to since they still race. I timed at a meet recently where a 92 years young man swam 4 events and set 1 world record.

I checked "No, I prefer other water sports." But the real answer (that yu didn't have an option for) is "No. I don't like swimming or water sports."
I would wear a bathing suit for the wet area in a gym. I could wear one in a pool, but I've never cared for pools or going in bodies of water.
My figure is okay. I'd probably work on getting in better shape beforehand, but I'm not fat, although I need to lose 10 lbs after the holidays! I'm a size 10, avg height, proportioned. Never had kids, so that helps.
I'm more worried about my chubby cheeks falling (no, not the ones you're thinking of. The ones on my face! )
My build is probably considered medium to small-ish in the US for my age, but I could not bring myself to vote for "fit, trim and proud of it." So I voted for "Yes I wear a swimsuit and I don't care." A great swimsuit makes all the difference in confidence. Being adequately covered in public is always an excellent idea, regardless of body size or fitness level.
A person who appears attractive on the outside can have a terrible personality or character, and a person with a beautiful, interesting nature always appears lovely.
I voted that I do and don't much care what other people think. I don't get a lot of opporunity to swim but I seize the chance when I can.
I think fewer people judge us than we really worry about. I try to operate on the Eleanor Roosevelt statement:
“You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.”
Then there are those who are going to judge regardless of how you look. For those I'm probably too old, too wrinkled, too fat, too something to be in a bathing suit. Since I'm pretty sure I will never be the exact right whatever to meet their standards, I've decided not to bother trying
