the question came up and i am curious what the procedure is for those turning 65 who want to start collecting in the same month they are going on medicare .

will the system be smart enough to both start ss and medicare together at 65 automatically if you file for ss 90 days in advance or do you need to sign up separately for medicare to insure it starts in the same month also ?

You have to sign up for each and do it so you get you check the same month medicare starts. Go to the SS office and tell them what you want. Your SS check follows by one month so my guess is you start SS one month before you are 65.
