I wanted to be a librarian. As a kid, I found books easier to deal with than people, and had some vague idea that librarians got to sit in the stacks and read. I still find books easier than people, but have learned that friendships are worth the effort. (And have learned that no career would allow me to sit in a dark corner and read books all day.)
As an older adult, my dream job is to own a beach bar in St Maarten, and live plain and simple in the Caribbean slinging drinks (or getting a good bartender to do so as I suck at it).
First-year Baby Boomer here. For girls like me, the choices were stewardess, teacher, nurse. I might have tried for stewardess, but I stopped growing at 5'1" and that was too short for the job. I hated biology, had no patience for slow learners. So what to do?
I ended up in corporate communications -- editing/writing and eventually managing. Perfect match for a voracious reader of good stuff. But nobody ever told me that skill could actually lead to a paycheck.
First I wanted to be an artist, then I wanted to be a teacher, then I wanted to be an executive secretary. I ended up as a studio crew technician for a TV station.
I wanted to be a veterinarian from high school through junior college. Quit that goal when family problems-divorce and mother's illness took over my life focus. Always regretted it. Still do.
As a kid I wanted to be a cowboy and live on the range with my horse, camping under the stars and living a life of adventure.
I had a horse as a kid and young adult and spent many hours out on the trail way out in the woods for hours.
I like to ''get away'' still on a scooter, bicycle, or in the car. Got ''wanderlust'' for the backroads. Thought about OTR truck driver but I can't sit still that long and don't like to hurry when I travel.
