After moving, how long did it take you to feel settled?

I too miss my great mtn homes of yrs gone by, but won't ever be going back except to visit (Which I did yesterday). Too many crowds / development / costs / rules, it is not the same, many previous residents who developed the caring / excellent community were forced out as we were... High taxation / property values displaced much of the American west (popular spots).

We need to find another place to hang out till demise, another country (with affordable / accessible Healthcare). There will never be another 'HOME" (not enough years remaining to build another 'ranch' with... soils, barns, lakes, orchards, fences, house(s))

35 yrs in current locale, it will never be 'home'. (But I am not free to MOVE... so I am just gone a lot) Over 40 'round trips' so far this yr, to various places, but never H-O-M-E

Thanks for the responses. I guess I was feeling a little homesick when I originally posted. But home wasn't so great or we wouldn't have moved, but it was familiar. As my DH says, "we're now strangers in a strange land." I love our house and other than unpacking a few more boxes and painting a couple more rooms, I feel pretty settled in on that front. I think it's more about meeting people who are more than just acquaintances and truly feeling like you're part of your new community. That I'm sure takes longer, but it's all a little daunting.

I started to feel like I was home when I could walk through the house in the middle of the night and not bump into anything. Also, when I knew more than one route to places, businesses, I frequented.
