Glassdoor reviews - truth or no? (state, retired, years, payment)

I've been looking for what I hope will be my last job before retiring. I am already 69, but still trying to work for the man every night and day, at least until the wife and I can downsize out of this too-big house and it's massive mortgage payment. Anyhow, I am scheduled for an lunch/interview tomorrow. Just for giggles, I check the company on Glassdoor. Crap! I wish I hadn't. Full of really negative reviews for the company I had hoped to get a gig with. Does anyone put any stock in those Glassdoor reviews?

Just bear in mind that a disgruntled employee is more likely to post a review than a gruntled employee.

Not at all to say this as a non-retirement topic ...but the employment subform 'job search' thread might get you more or better responses.

After all, you are asking about an issue that people who are more likely to care about working might be more interested in. Someone who's retired may not know squat about Glassdoor reviews, or care.

I've found Glassdoor very informative. But I'm also not retired.

^^^^ This. I have posted about a company on Glass Door, mainly because I wanted to prevent others from having the same miserable experience I did. I do find the salary info on Glass Door very useful.

You might get more/better responses if you post your question in the Work and Employment forum.

Glassdoor has some statements about my employer I know to be true. Probably some that are not as well.

I believe the reviews are accurate since the reviews written on my last employer are spot on. We know the major issues with the company and so many people post them in detail. The positive reviews for the same company are from employees who have worked there less than 2 years. (not enough time for them to experience many of the company problems)

Unless you know for sure that they are murdering people and burying them in the basement, at 69, if they offer you a job, I say take it.

I posted a review of the company I am with. In truth I was lucky it was left alone for 5 months, then I was told "Change it or we'll delete it" as it was (By their standards) Malicious. I was just being truthful that only a certain level got benefits like holiday pay, sick pay and paid days off. Maybe saying something like "Only the Gods get benefits" was my undoing...But for the time it was up, I got several ""Useful" responses.

I admit I changed it. Now it's a festering pool of resentment.

Hmm, I'm not familiar with glass door, ad I just learned about it.

But If the last poster is correct and either employers or sensors can coerce posters into changing their posts, OR it will be deleted, I'd not trust it.

I also second the motion that disgruntled employees are more likely to post.

Where I work in a hotel, most posts beyond the obligatory " room was clean, staff nice" posts, the real ones are vehement pissed off posters who will post a book about how " bad, it was that my room smelled funny WHEN I opened the door, and they moved me to another room next to it , but didn't compensate me or knock off money for the inconvenience of having to roll my unpacked suitcase to the other room next door".

Or stupider things like " I didn't Like the plastic forks in the dining room for the FREE breakfast and they refused to comp my room for my unsatisfactory breakfast tableware. I couldn't enjoy my breakfast and was repulsed by the plastic fork, i almost threw up. It was a disaster that the plastic forks were so disappointing. I'll NEVER stay there again, they should have given me a free room for the disgusting plastic forks. I wont even go into the awful plastic knives i had to deal with. And the only cups to drink the FREE coffee in the room were paper! And for heavens sakes, why do they have housekeeping EVERY DAY? I mean who needs fresh clean folded towels delivered every day? For all that they refused to make my room free for the night. I gave them a 2 out of 10"

Seriously.
And of course corporate rates us by such negative ratings without looking at the comments!

So read it, but form your own opinions upon your interview.

I think with most review sites it really depends on how many reviews are there. If there is only a handfull of reviews then I might be skeptical but if a large number and the majority are negative then probably correct.
