I don't know who "they" are, or what their reason is, but they have the saying wrong. Music has charms to soothe the savage breast, not beast.

Few great ones: Dean Martin, Buddy Holly, the king Elvis, nat king Cole, Louis Armstrong, Ricky Nelson, Bing (Even earlier), Dorothy Moore.
I simply can't imagine listening to that kind music! I've never even heard of Dorothy Moore.

I remember listening to my mom's 45s when I was little. She had an Andrews Sisters 45 with 2 songs per side on it. I still remember what they were. Rum and Coca Cola, Begin the Beguine, Rancho Pillow, and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. So when the Andrews Sisters were on the Jimmy Dean show one night, I got to stay up and see them. I must have been about 9 or 10.

MMoB: Thank you for finding that one by Edwin Starr.

The song I was thinking of was "What's Going On." Marvin Gaye.

I think it really describes the anguish I felt about the war in Vietnam (I am very sure I wasn't the only one who felt it).

I hate war. After all these years mankind still can't figure out how to do it without killing each other.

I always thought of Ohio by Neil Young and Handsome Johnny by Richie Havens when I think of war.

Have I seen mention of Cream, Blind Faith, Eric Clapton (see the trend?), Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Queen, Frank Zappa, Santana, etc?

Or are these a bit too recent?

Eric Clapton Unplugged is, to me, one of the best albums ever. Who knows the story behind this song?
