OP, why do you need "an identity"? What is wrong with being "retired"? When people ask me what I do, I happily tell them "I am retired." No need for "an identity ". I am me.

FWIW, the county Nature Center(s) where I am are always looking for this sort of help. It sounds perfect for you. I volunteered in another area of the Nature Center and would watch the trail/garden clean up folks come in for their shifts. They would pick up tools and go out to various spots, do their work, and then just bring back the tools when they had finished. Sounds perfect for you.
