My sweet Angelface cat was bottle raised by me starting at 2 days old. She was put to sleep just over 2 years ago due to sudden paralysis of her back legs, at the age of 19 1/2. I still see her sitting in her favorite spot out of the corner of my eye occasionally. I have video of her which has helped me heal from her loss. My heart still hurts for her, even knowing that letting her go was the right thing. It was the last gift of love I could provide, a peaceful end cuddled up in my arms.
I spent 10 years volunteering in cat rescue. Bringing them in, getting them healthy and adopting them out. I've seen many happy endings, and some which were tragic where there was no way to help the poor critters. This experience has helped, because I know my cat never faced the horrors that so many others face (hungry, cold, lonely and unloved)
The pain of loss never goes away, we just learn to live with it. But I will say that the years we shared and all the joy she gave me, was worth every second of the pain of losing her. I would do it again in a second! In fact...I have another cat which I rescued from the shelter kill list. She is precious in her own way. Although she will never fill Angelface's print left in my heart, she has made me smile and created her own print. Life goes on, and so does the love. It does not die with death. Helping to insure another cat had a lifelong love, helped me heal and Angelface would want me to smile.
Please know you are in my thoughts today. I hope the memories and love shared will be enough to make you smile soon.
My much loved Border Collie died a couple of months ago. He was 12 years 10 months, the internet says 12 is average. The last couple of days he knew he was dying but fought to stay alive as long as he could.
I hope we are together again in heaven even though the Bible doesn't say anything about that.
I'm crying a little as I type.
I have discovered for those who want to adopt from a shelter your county shelters greatly increase the selection as to just a couple of local city ones. You may have to drive a bit but its a 12 year or more commitment.
Brouse their websites for a picture and a brief description and available date.
So sorry that you have to make this difficult decision for your beloved kitty.
We had our sweet girl put to sleep 2 1/2 years ago just shy of her 20th birthday. She had been my oldest daughter's 5th birthday present. Since both of our daughters live close by we made the decision as a family to let her go when her kidneys were failing and she was having seizures. All four of us were a basket case, but we knew that we had to do what was best for her.
Six months later my husband and I adopted two 8 week old sister kittens who are now 2 years old and are a delight.
My mum's Khorat was 17 when she died, I took him home and cared lovingly for him for 2 years, then unfortunetaly he died of old age (and dehydration during summer) , I buried him in the garden RIP
