Yes, you are astute in your recognition I am talking about myself. And it's probably a primary reason I haven't joined the retirement forum sooner. I'm still glad I joined for a brief time and was able to share what I did, but now, time to move on.

I do not have the computer skills to put prior comments in quotes--just don't know how to do it, even though I tried to figure it out--so that's why I addressed you by name. Sorry for the misstep of a novice here.

Without proper computer skills to participate in this forum and a personal health requirement to keep my life as agreeable and low stress as possible I will very likely back out again and simply return to just reading and learning from the posters on this forum.

I respectfully thank you for your comments.

For what it's worth, this is one of the most respectful fora I've been on. I've been on various web fora since the late 1990s when I was a grade schooler.

There are probably ten to fifteen people on the retirement board that know my relatively common first name. I've exchanged PMs with a lot of folks over the years. I've met several posters who are local to me, but we aren't personal friends. I've met some more distant posters (mostly from Knoxville or in cities I commonly travel to), and have added a few retirement board people to my Facebook.

If something happened to me, I'd want the retirement and local boards to know. There are a handful of people that have access to my Facebook that would know I'm dead. Whether or not that gets disseminated, I wouldn't know.

As far as life expectancy, I get that when you're in your 60s, you're starting to see friends and such die off. I'm 32. I graduated with a class of 300 people in high school, and a little over 10% of those are already dead.

Think about the expected life expectancy of someone who is reasonably healthy and already 60. The odds are quite good they'll live to 70. 80 is not uncommon now. Many people are vigorous and healthy into their 70s. People need to look actuarial tables, not one-off anecdotes in their personal lives.
Dang I never thought about getting the word out that way. You and I are FB friends, we know each other's "real name" and I'm cool if you want to spread the word here if I go.

Over 10% of your high school class is gone? Was your school built on an ancient Indian burial ground?

I agree with this with the exception of the Politics Forum. But we all know that when we go there, you need your big boy pants on to participate there.

There have been a lot of drug-related deaths, mostly opioids. A pair of twin sisters went to middle school with me - one dealt drugs mostly, the other used. Both are now dead of overdoes. My guess is 5-10/300 died in car wrecks. There have been some suicides and one murder.

Drugs were #1, car wrecks probably #2, suicides #3. A few died of natural causes but probably less than five.

If and when the death of a forum member is known -- and it rarely is -- there is always a sympathetic response, regardless of the stature of the deceased forum member, and that includes "the average and miserable people."

Good luck finding a thread to prove otherwise.

I'm a he, and it's not snarky to call out complete nonsense.

I think you misunderstood, Loriact. PAhippo was quoting one of the last posts by LilyLady. It was LilyLady who died of complications from cancer.
