Does it matter if the ex wife has a 2nd husband, both are now deceased, can she choose the highest one. She was married to each for twenty years.

Oh well, my friend remarried before sixty, second husband worked for the state, his SS is very low. She mentioned maybe getting something from her first husband's SS.

Under 60 she lost that option unless the current marriage ends in divorce or death.

If you're eligible to collect benefits on your ex-spouse's record, you will no longer be eligible for those benefits if you remarry. ... You have the ability to choose between your own Social Security benefit or your ex-spouse's but once you remarry, however, that choice is gone.

If both spouses are deceased then the age 60 rule no longer applies. She can choose the highest benefit.

I think that if the spouse remarries but then divorces, she is then eligible for the first spouses's social security once again.
