My husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers almost three years ago. We have been doing intermittant fasting [I do 22/2, he does 16/8] and keep our carbs low. We also learn and practice ballroom dancing or line dancing for an hour every day. I do not see any progress in his disease sine we started doing these things. In fact, in some ways he seems better, but I think that is mainly because we have learned to keep evenings very low stress [it seems harder for him in the evening] These things seem to be helpinhg him and helping me s well.

I take vitamin E. Here's why - think what you want.
When horses contract EPM, a neurological disease, large doses of E can help repair the nerves.
Ergo (my idea) E helps brain function.

I haven't read all the replies, so I don't know if this has been addressed yet, but changing my diet has enormously improved my cognitive ability. I'm now about 99 percent vegan - I cheat once in a blue moon by eating an egg here and there or some fish. Removing animal products and animal fat from my diet, and eating whole foods, plant based diet, has made a huge difference in how I feel.

So, whole grain bread, brown rice, lots of beans and veggies, fruit, is most of what I eat now and I feel a lot better.

Not saying anyone else is wrong for taking their drugs, but this is working for me. Your mile may vary.

FISH OIL Omega 3's yes must add in and take daily! Lumonisity/brain games online. Yes to crosswords. Even other heavy duty games (think world of warcraft etc) that give you and your brain new challenges, that keeps all those neurons buff and worked out.
Also in the Bai line of drinks, there is something called coffee flower. Its the outer skins of coffee beans and has something really good for the brain. You can research it.
Stay young like the rest of us!!
And pardon me for sounding crude but a little self pleasure keeps a brain happy. Said nicely.

I never lose anything, why, my purse is my memory box. I throw everything in there. So I’m organized in that sense. Put things where it makes logical sense, then I don’t have to remember anything. For glasses, I have one in each room that I frequent and in my car. No panic whatsoever of where I last place it. Do things to help you remember.

Default Believe it or not

A good video game (cause and effect) will sharpen your cognitive skills. Anything that requires you to solve puzzles are, I'm sure, just as good.

Don't kick yourself if you can't remember things you saw or that happened years ago. Also bad experiences you have since blocked out.

Years ago I remember fine! It's yesterday that sometimes is the problem.

Q: Has anyone had luck taking or doing something to improve memory and brain function?

A: Yes. But I don't remember what it's called.

Grape Seed Extract, 25 yrs soon. GSE is 50x's more powerful than Vit E, and 20x's more powerful than Vit C.

Coconut Oil and coconut products when I'm moved..but CO every day.

I played bridge for many years and talk about keeping memory sharp... but had to quit due to knee issue and can't sit for hours now.
