I didn't know where to put this so I thought this might be a good place.
Recently I have noticed a substantial uptick in a dangerous and scary mental health disorder that I just made up. I call it Dementia Derangement Syndrome.
Symptoms include
- being from 45 to 57 years old.
- being female.
- being single or without children.
- stunning ignorance of what dementia is really like.
- believing that anyone over the age of 66 has "dementia".
- believing that anything said person does, is evidence of "dementia"
- taking action which is utterly uncalled for but "because that person *may* have dementia" it is necessary.
- worrying far too much about every action or inaction of anyone over the age of 65.
- bootstrapping dementia day one with dementia 10 years on.
- somehow wanting to make the non existent dementia problem all about them. Anyone around them knows they need to express sympathy.
You might think I am retired or have a kid but I am not. I am just beyond tired of DDS taking over all the women I know in my age group.
One of my friends succumbed to this and we had to part ways. She became convinced her father had dementia and she angered him with her fawning and he rebelled and this convinced her he was a dire case and on and on it went. I truly feel for him.
Now I have a neighbor who has become convinced that another neighbor has it and she called the cops for a wellness check. In my view there is nothing wrong with the other neighbor. But I know better than to tell my DDS friend of this fact.
If there only was some way to harness needless worry and use it for energy or something.
I know right. God forbid you tell someone you forgot something or misplaced something these days.

While you are correct that's not the point the OP is making. Rather, it's that there is a cohort of people who see someone misplacing their keys as a symptom of dementia.
Much like high school students accusing teachers on hall duty of being creepers and/or stalkers. And yes, that's happening. And every time that accusation is made it has to be investigated.
I don't watch much TV but I assume there must be a lot of medical infomercials talking about Dementia now ?
