I don't know. But in real terms, the tariffs will have an effect, since it's on many goods that the middle class buy, and it's 15% to 25%. That's the U.S. tariff side of things.
In deal making, China said it may hold off on tariffs on some goods, but will proceed with agriculture products. Who knows.
Of course, it's possible not to buy some things, to avoid those inflationary prices.
I'll be needing a new laptop. I need to find out where they are made. I didn't see that info when I was looking recently, so I need to do more research on that. Look up just brands, I guess.
No, LSLover is correct. Click on the link in that post and you will see the actual computations that have gotten us to this point in time. Your SSA link is a simple estimate that was developed earlier in the year. Their estimate for the 2020 COLA is really no different than their estimate for a 2025 COLA. It's simply an educated guess rather than the exact computations in LSLover's link.
I do not think inflation will change enough in either direction from the tariffs to identify the change with the tariffs. I would say no effect for 2020.
Exactly. Cola is already a done deal this year. Next year could be a different story if there is no deal in DC and the tariffs stay in effect.
LOL at "Trump trade wars". It's our trade dispute and it's high time we stood up to those thieves.
I wouldn't worry too much about the tariff situation. It'll get resolved in a year or two, and will hardly affect anyone's cost of living by more than a few dollars, less if you don't buy new electronics. Buy a two year old iPhone X on Ebay for $500 like my daughter did and it's just as good for half the price.
I did see that parts A/B will be going up to 144.00
LOL -- usually just enough to cover any COLA I will get. Oh well - not complaining as Medicare is a true bargain compared to what I was paying and getting before retirement. I paid $850 a month for a terrible policy that was basically just catastrophic insurance with a HUGE deductible.
Even with the $9 increase for part B, my husband’s check will be bigger and cover the increase. It pays to delay taking SS, not taking at 62, but it would be better if he had wait until FRA to take it.

if you delay ss you are uncapped as far medicare increases though .. for those collecting you are covered under hold harmless and your part b can't go up more than the cola increase ... for those not collecting you are not capped .

For 2020, even Medicare part B goes up more than 6%, he is still ahead, that is because premium is still small compare to his SS payment. Small price to pay.
Yes, remember hold harmless is for the amount, not the percentage. If Medicare goes up $10/m, it means little if SS increases $50. It would be nice if Medicare could only go up the same percentage as SS. Currently at $135, an increase to $144 is 6% increase.
