Is there any particular thing you did -- or plan to do (buy, eat, experience) -- as a retirement gift to yourself?

Share, for the fun of it!

Interesting idea....I absolutely love lobster but in the Midwest, it's not usually that great or prepared well. Maybe a later summer/early fall trip to Maine to gorge on great lobster for a week or so? Then, my next favorite would be crab, so on down to Baltimore?

First Monday after retirement, we enjoyed sleeping late, having a leisurely breakfast, and going kayaking. And we enjoyed speculating that all the worker bees driving to their jobs looked at us driving by with kayaks on our car, and were jealous.

Our retirement gift to ourselves were two nice model racing boats, which we have enjoyed racing around the lake near our house. Also, a fishing license and new fishing gear for my husband.

We booked two weeks to Hawaii around my retirement time. I had to wait for my kids to have their winter break first.

. What I did:
My last working day fell on a Monday (July 31, 2017), so the following morning...out of plain habit...woke up at the usual time (05:15). Turned the tv on, watch a little bit of news, then went back to sleep.
Hours later, went and got breakfast at Panera's, bought a brand new pair of running shoes and went for a run/jog.

. As a retirement gift to myself, I waited a couple of weeks (until I get paid), as I had cashed in some not used vacation/leave time, to pay off all of my debts (car, credit cards, loans, etc). A really good feeling.

. I also went in for a physical (blood pressure drop, stress gone) and dental appointment. It all came out good.

Carry on.

After moving overseas, we took a cruise to Italy and stayed there a month. It really IS visually just like the movies. Who knew!

Well, that is fun to think about, but we will probably be in the midst of packing for our final (we hope) move to our new custom home out of state, which will be a BIG retirement gift to ourselves. (Not a big house, though.)

However, maybe we will open the most expensive bottle of wine we will have on hand that is ready to drink, and have either a nice steak or an assortment of gourmet cheeses and crackers to go with it. (Either that or go to a very nice restaurant that we haven't been to before.)

I will definitely look forward to reading the replies of others, though!

Wife and I are both avid photographers and she suggested I buy a new camera body for my retirement. I told her I wanted to hold off till I see one that checks most of the boxes for my wishlist.

Instead I bought a lens I've wanted for awhile and updated/upgraded 2 other lenses. For those who are into photography as well, I picked up the Sigma Art 50/85/135 trio.
