My birthday is in the summer & I lived at the beach so I took the day off from my summer job and spent the day at the beach. My friends got me drunk on pina coladas and I don’t remember much after that except that we all went to the local liquor store and they photographed me buying my first legal bottle of Jack Daniels. I woke up the next morning by the toilet, just in time for work.

Drunk! Just finished concurrent degrees (two undergraduate degrees at the same time). I started university at 17 so this was well-deserved.

As a rifleman with the 1/28th Infantry, First Infantry Division, under attack by the 272nd VC regiment at Quan Loi, Vietnam as the Tet offensive began — on my 21st birthday, in 1968.

Don't really remember, but I would have been a junior in college and school would have still been in session. The importance had worn off my birthday in high school, and it was only my mother and my aunt who thought it should be celebrated. Being on my own in college this year, I am pretty sure that I would have done nothing out of the ordinary.

I was deployed. I was stationed on the USS George C. Marshall SSBN 654. We were underwater and on 'patrol' carrying missiles as a part of our nation's nuclear deterrence.
