Seeking information about both. Who here has had actually experienced living in low cost of living places in the US and/or Western/Northern Europe. What is your monthly cost of living and what does it include? Many thanks!

This just sounds like a variation of the "Cheapest places to retire in the US/ Europe", which can be googled easily.

The question, "What is your monthly cost of living and what does it include?" are many times included in these articles.

Dubrovnik Croatia. Went there for a destination wedding. Out to dinner and the bill was so cheap I thought they left something off. Picked up a full liter bottle of wine for $2.50. Key is Croatia is not on the Euro.

Gosh, I can get a gallon of wine at Safeway for $6 Not the best and I won’t drink it. Cheapest is not always the best option. Fine a place you like that fits your budget. With that said, overall you will find good places to live in the US less expensive than good places in Europe.

A second thought, the term “ cheapest state” is quite the broad brush. I live in a nice part of CA (eastern). The cost of the average home where I live is 20% of LA or other coastal cities. Less expensive than parts of Texas, Colorado, Nevada, and parts of other states. It depends on what part of which state one is talking about.

During my career, we transferred to new duty stations every three years. We knew my forced retirement date approximately 15 years in advance. So at each duty station, we focused a lot of our energy on searching for the perfect retirement location.

We decided upon settling in Maine. The oldest state and state with the highest percentage of retirees.

I visited Dubrovnik back in 2018. Fans of Game of Thrones would love it.

Why the hell would anyone voluntarily live in the cheapest state or city?

Uh, maybe so that their limited income would go farther in buying things that they need??? Just a wild guess.
