My daughter lost part of her hearing at age 14 months due to viral meningitis.
She got hearing aids at age 26 when she discovered she had hearing loss.
She has worn hearing aids for 8+ years now at a cost of $6000 spent every 6 years. Made in Denmark.

My father was quite deaf when he croaked at 95-1/2. No hearing aids for him. We dealt with his denial for 15 years. But, he managed his Fido account quite well until his death.
My mother had the hearing acuity of an owl, But, she had brain rot for the last 6 years of her life when she croaked at 95-1/2.

Do the best you can.

I got my last pair from Costco and I think you will be satisfied with what you get from them. I've had hearing issues since I was born and I have gone through a lot of HA's over the years. If you do get them from Costco get their Gold Star membership. You will get 2% back on every thing you buy including the HA's.

Clark Howard just has an article on where to buy hearing aids last week, and Costco was up there: https://clark.com/health-health-care/hearing-aids/

Highly recommend Costco.

They have their Signature 9 series for $1500 for the pair.

But if your mother won't wear them you might want to try a hearing amplifier that you can buy for a lot less than a HA and they work.

I've worn hearing aids for the past 21 years and they do require maintenance such as changing wax filters and batteries - and if it's a behind the ear hearing aid, changing the "domes" that go into the ear, all of which might be difficult for an older person to physically manipulate without some assistance. I don't mean to be negative, but unless the wearer really wants to be able to hear, they may need assistance.

I've worn Widex, Audigy, Oticon and my latest is ReSound (a Danish company) that are rechargeable. I now have significant hearing loss and the speech clalrity of the ReSound is excellent. Someone mentioned Costco sells ReSound and I can personally recommend them. Rechargeable hearing aids would eliminate needing to change batteries, but it would require the wearer to be capable of putting them in the case in the right way each night - but it's very simple.

Best of luck to you!!

I was all set to go to Costco and replace my 4 yr old hearing aids. But just in case I scheduled a hearing test with my local audiologist. She found that in 4 years my hearing had declined significantly in my right ear. She reprogrammed my hearing aids and for $150 I am a happy camper. I haven't had to ask the wife to repeat herself since I got them done.

Those that do wear hearing aids, what is helpful to you, to those speaking to you ?

Please face me, I tell people, do not lower your voice OR whisper please. Kept humble, many people do not know I'm wearing aids. So happy I did get aids, discovered I inherited it from my maternal side, only passed down to females. This I was told by my audiologist when I learned I was Scandinavian descent Not German ! LoL

but when you DO need new hearing aids, remember that Costco would have done that reprogramming for no charge,

Due to congenital hearing loss, I've worn hearing aids since 1984 & have had an abundance of good & bad experiences. Costco is by far the best ever. I'll never go to another provider.
