Age 12,
A well worn rifle.

I still have it (of course).
I still use it.

I often bought a motorcycle on my birthday. I still have several of those. They should bring additional buyers to my estate sale.

At 15 and working full time bought a case of beer. At .69 for a six pack it was easy back then.

Gemini, I loved Bread as a young teen. And if you want embarrassing, the first record I ever bought at about age 11 was the 45 I love the flower girl by the cowsills! That was with my allowance, though. My first purchase with my paycheck from McDonald’s at age 16 was a record player. By then it was all Chicago and Moody Blues.

It gets worse. My second album purchased was Barry Manilow Live. Heavens.

(I did get to Chicago and Moody Blues soon thereafter, but I think you beat me there.)

I was 22 and had just moved for my first job out of college. My first engineering job had me working 12 hours per day and 6 days per week. I was alone. So I went to the grocery store and bought:

-7 Swanson TV dinners
-A gallon of Red Mountain wine

The clerk looked at it, rolled her eyes, and said, "honey, you need help."

Luckily, that job lasted only 6 months. I quit and went back to grad school.

I started mowing lawns as soon as I was tall enough to push the mower. I charged $3.00 in neighborhood of 1/2 to 3/4 acre yards. My price has since gone up.
The first regular job that I had to report to an adult (not my parent) was delivering newspapers on a bicycle route. Through diligent salesmanship and good service, I was making nearly $28.00 a month in the early 1960's I was rich, ha hah hah.
I bought transistors and parts to make small electronic devices.
I bought chemicals to make home made rockets and fireworks. I used my skill to blow to pieces a neighbor's no-longer-used outhouse. They thought it was a good prank. Now a days the FBI would have gotten involved.
I bought magazines like popular mechanics and science books, and science fiction. My parents had begun a subscription to Scientific American for me when I was nine years old.
I bought junk food, mostly RC and moon pies, no kidding.

The first thing I was proud to buy was a hardback copy of "Gone with the Wind".

What were you thrilled to buy with your first (probably teenage) paycheck?
Gas so I could get back to work the next weekend.
