If you celebrate Christmas or enjoy being around others who do what are your favorite seasonal songs?

I was raised in the old Evangelical Lutheran Church on the prairie of southern MN so the Lutheran Christmas carols are embedded in my tradition of Christmas celebrations. My favorite has always been "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," from a Unitarian poem.

"It's an 1849 poem and Christmas carol written by Edmund Sears, pastor of the Unitarian Church in Wayland, Massachusetts. In 1850, Sears' lyrics were set to "Carol", a tune written for the poem the same year at his request, by Richard Storrs Willis. This pairing remains the most popular in the United States, while in Commonwealth countries, the lyrics are set to "Noel", a later adaptation by Arthur Sullivan from an English melody." Wikipedia

The words create such a beautiful picture in my mind of peace and comfort and the tune is floating and compelling.

My favorite piece of secular holiday music is "The Nutcracker Suite" by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Every year my mom and I used to take our daughter/granddaughter for the performance in St. Paul, MN. This year daughter and I will attend the U of Mn performance in So MN.

I still listen to music my family always listened to at Christmas, including Perry Como and Harry Simeone Chorale, as well as more contemporary music (Train. etc.) It makes for a rich and varied playlist.

I remember hearing this on the radio when I was a kid. It's still my favorite Christmas music.

Even as an atheist, I find Gregorian chant and sung Masses (?) quite beautiful. No interest in Christmas per se.

My girlfriend is managing the Christmas thing. I like to listen to traditional carols with her. We’re going to see the “Winter Lights” at the WNC Arboretum tonight.

I kind of like the glow of a tree, but not religious. I just had to buy tires, now a mattress, and a heat pump in the summer. I’m cutting some fat from the budget

Mannheim Steamroller for me! I never get tired of listening to that music. And for personally playing on the piano, it's anything from Charlie Brown Christmas.

You don't need to worry that a tree makes you look religious. It's a pagan tradition arising from the
"celebration of the Solstice and symbolizing the victory of light and life over death and darkness." Quote from Carole Cusack, professor of religious studies at the University of Sydney.

I still like White Christmas by Bing Crosby, Blue Christmas by Elvis, and my very favorite Christmas carol is Oh Holy Night. That's about all I need!

I love Silver Bells and Silent Night. There are very few Christmas songs I dislike.

I used to think that same thing. Then the radio station I listen to while I walk went to all Christmas music just before Thanksgiving. It has made me realize just how much really bad Christmas music there is out there. Unfortunately I can't find another station to tide me over, so I listen to the good songs and hit the off switch when the bad ones come on.
