Haha, I had the Batman (TV series ones) and the original Lost in Space cards. No one else seems to remember the puzzle on the back. I NEVER was able to het them all! The gum was good for about 5 seconds, then was gross...
I loved those TV Batman bubblegum cards! I remember when I had the measles my parents got me a pack and when I opened it the very top card was Frank Gorshin as the Riddler! I was astonished my parents had guessed he was my very favorite character on the show and my secret crush
Necco Wafers - they are still sold in some CVSes and Duane Reades around me, and I still love 'em
Broadway Rolls
Candy cigarettes
Zero Bar
Sky Bar
I ate those soft Pine Brothers cough drops like candy, esp. the Cherry and Honey flavors
Certs, the fruit flavored variety
There were also these small caramel "logs" that had shredded coconut (or fake coconut) sticking out. Don't remember the name, but I loved those too!
I used to like some flavors of Life Savers. When Jolly Rancher came out, I liked them much less. These days I can't tolerate them - they're *way* over-flavored. And sadly, so are Life Savers. Now they're horrible.
I miss boiled sweets (hard candies). I may have to learn to make my own.
BION, I rarely ate candy as a child. When I was about 12, I saw an ad for Butterfinger on the back of a magazine, and the thought occorred to me that I hadn't had a candy bar in. like, forever, so I had this terrible urge for one. I immediately got on my bike and went and blew a nickel of my allowance. Sacrificing six baseball cards, possibly even the Sal Maglie I needed.
York Peppermint Patties. The lady next door worked at the movie theater candy counter and would give me one of these sometimes.
Ice cubes. Creamy chocolate cubes.
Nonpariels. They're not that special but I liked them.
Black licorice. The Scotty dogs were a penny but the licorice pipes were a nickel at the penny candy counter. I still like black licorice. Received a box of all-sorts for Christmas.
Each Saturday my parents would give me my .25 cents allowance and we would go to town. It was eventually increased to .50 cents. I loved the Dime Store with their wonderful candy counter. The divinity candy, chocolate covered peanuts just delightful to see by a kid. Eye height to the counter moving down the counter slowly looking at all the selections.
A lady worked behind the counter and when you made your selection she would scoop it out and put it on the scales then tell you the price.Take some away or add more then into the little white paper bag.
