I think some people just really enjoy driving around for half a day to save a quarter here and a dollar there and really don't care about the gas. It's like a game they play.
I think you're right. It's the excitement of getting something cheaper, not the actual savings.
Or free. I think I've mentioned before that this friend got a card in the mail from the local Dunkin Donuts offering a free iced coffee to seniors on Mondays for a month. So, for that month, she went every Monday to the drive-through at DD and asked for her free iced coffee "with very little ice", because she doesn't actually drink iced coffee. She would then heat that coffee up and drink it. And every week call to tell me gleefully how she got her free coffee that day again. LOL.
She also takes the leftover coffee home after church, pouring it into an empty plastic orange juice jug. Decaf or not, she just mixes it. Then she reheats it during the week. Meanwhile, the woman has at least a dozen cans of coffee that she got on sale in her storage room. But...it's FREE.
Before DH retired, he had a company car, and a expense account.....gas was never a worry. We used to take long rides every where. I miss that.
Ditto. I had a company car and an expense account for over thirty years. Company credit card for gas and other card related expenses. Company even paid for a weekly car wash. New car every two years. Saved a ton of money over those years since I virtually had no out of pocket vehicle expenses.

Speaking of coffee, we will drive as much as 20 miles for our favorite coffee drinks at Dutch Bros. That's the closest to us, unfortunately, but we will also stop at a couple of other places in that area while at it, like a market that has a really good selection of international foods. In the summer when the weather was nice we would even go to a Dutch Bros. 45 miles away, with a more leisurely scenic drive home.

I don't really get it, but I'm not familiar (yet) with Medicare. I am 63, so I will have to familiarize myself with it next year. Not looking forward to it, because I'll have to pay for it and right now I don't pay anything for health insurance. But, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Is this a real thing? Funny to see JJ, though!
The FREEEEEEEEEEE! is the hook for many. Others can explain it better than I, but my understanding is that these are policies Medicare will pay for and, in theory, that cover more than Medicare does.
I think they're aimed at people who don't have secondary insurance that covers what Medicare doesn't. These are the ads people complain about in the Commercials that annoy you thread.

Oh yes! Now you've brought this one to mind, which seems to play every half an hour where I am.
So, I was passing by a place, and stopped in to pick something up.
It was $1 more than my usual place, but it would have been out of my way though, as I was in the opposite direction.
I figured I'd have spent $1 in gas going out of my way, so saved time.
Got me to wondering... How far are you willing to drive to save money, and how much do you save, and what do you save on?
Or how far do you drive to save $$?
There is a Sam's club here, but not really impressed.
Costco, nearest is about 2.5 hours away. Probably not worth the drive.
BJs wholesale club is an hour+ away, again probably not worth it.
I know many of you shop online, but for the items you do buy in person, how far will you go?
Gas included, do you actually save $$?
Let's discuss...
Best
Amazon...
Though I think Sams club ships.
