So, spouse and I have done a lot in the last decade to face our retirement.

But, of late, both our health has gone drastically down hill.

And here in the great white frozen tundra of the north, neatly ALL of January has been frigid digits. +Maybe first week was mild?

This causes us both great pain from neck to feet.

With the passing of my FIL, we will enhance our coffers, and after my father passes, we can move to warm climate.

So... what is YOUR WORST fear for retirement?

Best

My worst fear is getting dementia or being very disabled from having a big stroke.

Sitting in a wheelchair in a NH with my head cocked, and drool running out the side of my mouth.

There's a few things.

Mechanical failures
Medical issue in unfamiliar place.
Attack by miscreants.

But if you went dementia, you'd not realize it as the "You" now, won't exist anymore. But I totally agree on the stroke.

So went my dad at age 49. Could not walk for 3 yrs, could not speak for over 10 yrs.

Skilled care until age 82 (by me).
It was not all that fun for either of us.

I am not keen on losing my ability to walk (Since Sept) no one knows why, never had issues before.

Losing my mind ... entirely possible.

Losing sight... working on that one too.

At least I didn't die while at work.

Same. Or any debilitating health issue early on in retirement.

I'd see this as an honor. Preserving wealth for the next generation is high on my list.

For me, I realize that there are lots of bad things that could happen to us. But we are going to do our best to not live in fear of them happening. And if they do, we will just deal with them the best we can.

Going to try to enjoy whatever time we have left.
