I'm not outgoing but it bothers me if I'm home too long. I'm a big church goer and that provides my social life, two big churches with during the week activities. But this week after a senior group today I'm home till Sat. evening when I go to church.
I think Fri. I'll go to Costco and a restaurant with a all you can eat lunchtime buffet.
I walk outside daily and often talk to people on my walks. I still consult part time, have regular days to see my kids and friends and belong to a couple of boards. So probably the longest I go just being alone is 3 days.
Unless it's raining, I get out everyday but I make it a point to stay home one day a week and do things at home. Even when I get out, it's not like I'm out there riding a roller coaster. I go for walks downtown and along the river, have lunch or dinner with a friend sometimes, do some grocery shopping, attend a meeting for an organization I belong to. I often stop and chat with people I know. Today I have a meeting with an historical group a little later.
Sunday is my usual day to stay home. I'm actually really lazy if I allow myself to be and am a homebody more than anything else. When I moved here I made it a point not to isolate myself and get out. I have continued to do so.
I leave my apartment every day. Coffee with the neighbors at the clubhouse and/or swimming at the pool. I walk next door to the supermarket almost every day to get something fresh to prepare for dinner. We have 25 miles of walking trails, so I will go out with my daughter and her dog and do 3 or 4 miles to a dog park and back. Professional hockey is 25 minutes away, so I hit up their games (twice this week). I also venture out to the outlets or box stores to shop a couple of times per month. I eat out probably 4-5 times per week, mostly lunches but at least one dinner or Happy Hour. I will usually travel out of state two weekends per month for hockey or other events.
Sometimes when I really get into a stack of books, I don't go out for days, but I need groceries eventually (like right now :-) so have to go and get them. I travel a lot, so I obviously get out for that. I like to go for a walk too; I do that daily unless I am buried in a 1,800 page book that I am racing to finish because I must return it to the library since I'm going out of town (like right now also :-). If you mean going out socially, it's too much work to get that organized; I mostly communicate with people by e-mail or phone. I'd say my only impediment to going out is that the pull of a book is often too strong, otherwise I prefer to be outside.
I go for a 30 to 35 mile bike ride 4 or 5 days per week, usually around 3 hours of pedaling and some stops for sightseeing or photos added on. I am living in an area that is new to me as of 6 weeks ago, so almost every ride is an adventure with something new. There are hundreds of miles of paved bicycle paths and trails in the region, and hundreds more in other areas in southern and central Ohio that I plan to explore.
I walk or bike ride to all of the stores that are within 1 or 1.5 miles of my apartment. The Aldi and Target stores are closest (about 10 minutes by foot), so I usually walk with my backpack to carry stuff back home. Most other stores are a bit further so I often ride my bike. Bike paths get me close to most of the stores, so I don't have to deal with much in the way of car traffic.
There are lots of great museums in this area. I went to the nearby National Museum of the US Air Force. It is so big, I only saw a fraction of it in a 2+ hour visit. There are a bunch of Wright Brothers museums too around Dayton. Last week I went to the American Bicycle Museum in New Bremen, OH - what a gem that is, the museum and the little town.
I am 81 and mobile. I use to get out every day but now I typically go out 3 to 4 times a week. Today as an example, I am headed out to the liquor store and get a haircut. If I am feeling lazy I will use Insta-Cart and have my groceries delivered. I also but quite a few things from Amazon.
Might want to look for a part time job that has interaction with the public.
Also your local schools may need volunteer slots that would work for you.
