We are starting to narrow down our search to this region of the country. We are looking for a small more remote area with low priced real estate. Any suggestions in this area of the country? We like the idea of the lower humidity (currently in VA). We also like that OR has no sales tax, WA has no personal income tax and Idaho does not tax social security benefits. We will not have much retirement income so we are looking for the most affordable in this area. We have horses so we will be needing a little land. Thanks

I did live in what they call NE Oregon for a while. It may not have been as far east as you are thinking about. We were just across the river from Washington. Now I live on the coast in Oregon.

I will tell you that the weather can be extreme in that area. It gets hot in summer and cold with snow in winter. Now if that's alright with you then it may be you'll want to take a look around La Grande or Baker City. These 2 cities are fairly inexpensive plus they have trees. If you want on the Washington side but inexpensive perhaps Goldendale would be the place.

I don't know much about Idaho.
